If I undertstand what I read in previous posts correctly, this model was produced from late 70's to late 80's.Best Answer. The grips are definitely 1920's versions and if the SN inside the right panel matches, the gun shipped between 1928 and 1930. The .38 M&P with a 4" barrel was the military revolver of WWII, AKA the Victory model. It was identical to your GF's gun except for barrel length and finish.

Open the cylinder, and look at the stampings in the frame; it should say "MOD 30-1". If there are numbers above or below this stamping, they are just factory assembly numbers. Unfortunately you are looking at the assembly number not the serial number. You will find the serial on thr bottom of the grip frame when you remove the grips. A Model 10-7 can't have a serial number of C359288 (the B97447 is not a serial) because that C series number is from around 1956 which is before S&W model marked their guns. The serial number is 3228 which is stamped above the model number on the side of the frame. If they started the numbering at 3001 and they shared these numbers with other Smith & Wesson handguns would this be an early 1957 gun? Any rough estimate of value would be appreciated.
