Code P2646 troubles. My element has had this code pop up on and off for probably about a year now. When it occurs, the engine light, traction, and VSA light all turn on and the car jerks whenever I try to go over 3000 RPM, and if I go too fast (e.g. on the highway) it just starts decelerating. I've brought it multiple places to get looked at ... Fleetw00d. P2646 will cause your engine to go into limp mode at about 3000 rpm which is why you're experiencing the "sputtering". It is not in vain, but do not just simply throw parts at it. P0420 is a catalytic converter efficiency code; it may set the code, but shouldn't cause drivability issues like the P2646.
