I prefer Herco in the "Old Style" compression formed AA case and IMR4756 in the STS case. According to old Winchester Literature it duplicates the ballistic level of AA 20 ga factory loads when used in AA cf cases. According to my source: Federal paper or plastic cases, Federal 209 primer, 7/8 oz shot with any of the following wads: Federal pin cushion #20S1, or Remington RXP20, or Win WAA20.I have an old Hercules data manual and the only 1 1/8 oz. 20 ga. loads it shows are 3". There is a 1 3/16 oz. 3" load as well. All use AACF hulls and Blue Dot powder and SP20 wads. It's interesting that the guide has a correction taped over the 3" 20 load data. The old DuPont data for short 1 1/8 oz. 20 ga. loads all use 4756.You have to stop looking for old discontinued wads, and look at the nontox capable wads. All of these hold 1oz or more lead for 20ga. SP20's are good substitutes for the WW20F1 but are expensive if you shoot a lot. Try the Windjammer 20. Although the factory lists them as a 7/8oz. wad they work well with 1oz. if you use a low dense, sitting powder like HS6. The Duster orange 20 is a 7/8oz. wad, period. It sits high with about any brand/type powder.
