Strictly PvE (but applicable to PvP) and pre-patch, it was the weapon art. Deals massive (ultra greatsword level) damage but comes out much faster, was spammable, poise broke very easily, has poise itself. Pair it with the ring that heals HP and fp on critical hits, and you just spam weapon art on bosses, poise break, crit, repeat.Haven’t found any good looking armor yet so still rocking the starter samurai which looks great, imo, so gotta use a katana. I want to maybe try a dual katana build because I like fast fighting and that seems even faster than single katana. I read this moonveil katana is good so I found where it is and headed there.I can’t find a a breakdown to the AR adjustment to see if that is holy damage added or just a percentage increase to the damage types already being used but that was a consistent 11.5% on both rivers of blood and moonveil. 11.5% defense boost is worth it and 11.5% attack boost regardless of type is still worth it.Go like a keen (I believe that’s the right one) should scale with int/dex. Moonveil🤮. Naga - lower damage, longer range. Uchi - higher damage, lower range. It's one of those weapons that's a noob trap, imo. People get stuck on using the ranged attack as a crutch, while the actual katana moveset is extremely versatile and is, in tandem with the ranged attack, the key to being really skilled with it. In other words, it's a low skill floor, high skill ceiling weapon.

It still works great. moonveil just seems better. the moves come out quick and it's just as strong, if not stronger. unfortunate, because i just got the darkmoon greatsword and love the way it looks. was thinking about respeccing for it, but i can wield it two-handed without the repsec. still might play around with it more or use it for bosses weak to frost. You can go for more status effects by putting a cold katana in your left hand and still use the weapon art of the moonveil. The L1 power stancing will build bleed faster and having the cold will help. Status effects scale well into the higher NG+. You can still use the weapon art to break stances decently well.
