This means the data being sent from my devices to the server and back again loses a bit of the data along the way. This causes a lot of glitches and lags in many of the games I play.

No packet loss in a wired connection should be considered normal. Packet loss tells you there is a physical issue somewhere, whether it be a bad cable, bad optic, or a link somewhere in your path that is saturated. I guess that it's buffer overload causing drops.
