Acetone is much better and much faster at removing polish than nail polish remover. It also doesn't contain water: the worst chemical for our nails. I use a cheap oil around my fingers before applying acetone soaked cotton and my manicure clips to help mitigate the drying effect. Opi nail envy and jojoba oil.That is an interesting perspective. Learning to do your own gels with soak-off polish is also a good alternative if you are into DIY, but it requires learning to remove the product safely anyway.

Pushing back and then immediately trimming is not a good strategy. The "cuticle junk" immediately after being pushed back, is like a sandwich of dead skin folded around live skin.
