Since sometime ago the folder in MyGames has stopped savings in game screenshots. The ingame message is fine and saved in theory. You're confusing things. The game has a screenshot tool as well as steam. Pressing F12 screenshots using the Steam Overlay, that can't be altered within FFXIV, you need to change it in the Steam settings. To take a screenshot using FFXIV instead of Steam, you need to hit the Print Screen button.
