F30 b58 swap.
N55 sounds a bit better imo but will make less power overall, tuned or not. The B58 still sounds really great and has a larger turbo from factory, and a better intercooler system among other big improvements. I upgraded from an N55 to a B58 but my N55 really kicked ass.

The goal here would be to have a running and driving n55 or b58 powered xdrive f31 wagon, pushing roughly around 400whp. Who want to see it done? I'm thinking it'd be easiest to swap over literally the entire wiring harness and modules from the f30 and then just add a few wires for the trunk specific things and code it in.

The B58 has a highly capable and reliable turbocharger. The maximum we've seen to stock turbo run is 23-24psi at the time of this writing. There appears to be a fuel cap that is preventing the turbo from being pushed further at this time. The reliability threshold is going to be around 20-21psi, although you are likely still deteriorating ...

I don't know what the driving conditions are where you are but a 330i should be more than sufficient. Learn to love what you have or sell the car for a 340i or M3.
