Refering to the '06 touring models,the service manual says 32 ozs.The owners maual says to fill to bottom of clutch spring.I had to add about another 5 ozs to get the level to the clutch spring.No abnormal clutch action with this amount. I think the spec is 3/8 - 5/8 inch play cold so a little less than a fingers width would be in the ball park. Make the adjustment at the tightest spot in the chain.The HD manual spec is the same for my 2004 softail. When you simply drain the primary without removing the outer cover, 3-4 oz. of oil remains in the primary case. If you remove the outer cover for some reason, you might then use a full quart.
