The Port Aransas ferry system is updating its fleet with new, larger vessels. As of late July, the fleet consisted of eight ferries, five of which carried up to 20 vehicles. Three of the ferries carried up to 28 vehicles. At press time, two new 28- car ferries were expected to join the fleet soon, replacing two of the 20-car ferries.
