The sack that holds the water isnt connected to the mucous plug though. You could loose your mucous plug and never have your water break on its own. The sack is connected to the inside of the uterus, but can be separated from the uterus without rupturing it (this is part of having your membranes swept).I had a S&S on Tuesday morning and had the same cramping following and back pain. I lost mine with ds but still had to be induced, some people loose it during labour, right before labour, or weeks/days before labour. Unfortunately there isn't really much telling how far away labour is.
