When a player drops their hands, what they are doing is slotting their back elbow in preparation to swing the bat. When a player is simply told to "not drop their hands", they are essentially being told to not slot their back elbow. This puts the hitter in conflict because the body wants to slot the back elbow.

A true riseball gives the appearance of being slower for a few reasons, both related to true backspin: a) the ball actually decelerates more as it approaches the batter than other pitches. After the break she had gained about 4-5 mph on her fastball. She pitched in a couple fall tournaments with the same velocity. She takes lessons and over the winter months kept her speed but only pitching about two times/week. Her first indoor tourney same thing..good velocity. 22. 3.
